2DO NOT BUY THIS FOR $150!! I purchased mine for $30 brand new!
By N. Stauffer
First of all, I purchased ours for $29.99 from Carson Pirie Scott brand new (it's a costly section store FYI and it was "marked down" from $60). Whoever this vendor is, they are RIPPING YOU OFF!!!

But even at $30 I have not been too pleased. I purchased 2, one for us and one for a christmas present. One of the 2 was broken when I got home. I interchanged it for another. Our toddler has been using ours for a month when it broke too! Then when we tried to plug it into the computer, the USB port broke off and is now rattling around in the case! (And no, I do recognise what I am doing and didn't use exuberant force.)

This is in truth too bad because our toddler LOVES it and has taken it everyplace (dr office, store, long car ride). He may work the buttons just fine, and has thrown it and stepped on it without it skipping or powering down. It seems well-designed for little hands that aren't too gentle. In fact, when it broke we had just turned it off for the night and then it didn't turn on again in the morning for reason...

The battery life is beauteous good. I would say we got with regards to 2 weeks of near nonstop use out of each set of batteries. I wish it was rechargeable.

So, last week this would have gotten 5 stars. Now it gets 2.

UPDATE: We substituted this with the $60 SweetPea 3. It is so superior to the Blue Hat!! It is sturdier, littler yet still 100% useable by little fingers, has 4 times the memory, the same battery life with just 1 battery rather of 4, and has actual firmware so you may make playlists, adjust the automati turnoff time, etc. Plus the volume knob is hidden, and it resumes at the same song it was on when it turned off, rather of the BH one which starts over at the beginning each time. The only thing it doesn't have that the Blue Hat had was a scrolling song titles. BUY THE SWEETPEA!

5A true MP3 player for little ones
By A. Yeung
This product is the only actual MP3 player I've been capable to find for preschoolers. So a lot of other productions hint that they're MP3 players (aka MP 123, FP3, etc) or in galore cases even SAY MP3 on the package when they don't genuinely play MP3s at all (SHAME ON YOU PLAYSKOOL!). From the other reviews, it sounds like this manufacturer might have a heap of bugs to work out of the system and possibly we got lucky with the original one working no problems. I got ours from JC Penney's, they were merchandising there for $30 before Christmas (I employed a $15 off coupon on mine tho!) and they're merchandising for $20 there as of today (12/26/2008). It connects with a usual mini-USB cable and my XP computer recognized it as an MP3 player/external hard drive immediately, no problem whatsoever. I down-converted a few songs to a lower bitrate so they'd take up less space on the player (not that it's an issue yet - my kids are at the stage where they want to listen the same song over and over again anyway so I only put a handful on and got rid of the ones that came with the player). The kids have been playing with it almost constantly for the last 24 hours, can't in truth say much to the durability yet but they're not being tame and it's still working fine. I did detect that the display model at the store had the volume knob missing, tho who knows how that happened and if an individual "older than commended age" for the product did it on intention (which, having tested it with my own hands before handing it over to an 18mo - aka someone "younger than the commended age" - the volume knob feels gorgeous darn secure to me - and that piece is huge sufficient to be borderline on the choking-hazard-danger scale anyway, it'll fit in his mouth but not likely down his windpipe).

The only worries I have (and they're not sufficient to lower my review to 4 stars rather of 5) are: the battery screws are fine-thread and take FOREVER to (un)screw - if you've got a power screw driver you might want to use it here (tho be careful not to over tighten and strip the screws!). Also, I put reasonably freshly charged 2500 NiMH rechargable AA batteries (it needs 4 AAs) in on Christmas Eve while wrapping it, it showed that it only had one bar (out of what looks like 3) worth of battery power and today stopped playing with a "low battery" warning on the screen. I substituted with another set of somewhat freshly charged 2500 NiMH AAs (we have a lot of them around our house, being an eco-geek family) and it's again showing only one bar worth of battery power. Haven't tried other batteries, it may be that it doesn't like rechargable batteries. As much as my sons are enjoying this product (and the apparently amazing deal I got on it, given what the lone vendor is merchandising them for as I write this), I'd happily invest in rechargable lithium batteries for it if that's what kept the thing running without my having to open the battery compartment regularly.

Definitely will be recommending this product to my friends whose kiddos are closely wrecking the parents' MP3 players.

As another reviewer mentioned, it does have a headphone jack and the volume isn't annoyingly piercing even at full blast.

5Great little mp3 player!
By Jennifer Richardson
My daughter received this as a gift from her Aunt this Christmas. I have to say it has been a blessing. She loves music and loves this toy! It was a slow start out getting it going. After we figured out you hold down the play button to make it work..... my daughter was singing and dancing away. Its a tough little toy too. She has dropped it a heap of times and totes it everyplace and yet it keeps on playin'!
